  • Understand definition of an SMSF and why it is important in context of death of a member,
  • What steps are required when a member dies, 
  • What an enduring power of attorney (EPOA) is and why this may be necessary,  
  • Who controls an SMSF on death of a member,
  • Understand the cashing rules for a deceased member's benefit and how they apply to different beneficiaries,  
  • Implement strategies to retain as much of the deceased member's superannuation within the fund as possible,  
  • Understand how the Exempt Current Pension Income (ECPI) rules apply after the death of a pension member, 
  • Deal with the transfer balance cap (TBC) reporting requirements where a beneficiary receives a super death benefit in the form of a pension.
