Doug McBirnie

Doug McBirnie - General Manager, Accurium

Doug is an experienced fellow of the Actuaries Institute and the Senior Actuary heading up Accurium’s SMSF practice. He is passionate about using his actuarial skills in the retirement space to provide innovative solutions for SMSF practitioners and their clients.

Previously, Doug has worked as an actuarial consultant at a big four accounting firm providing advice to superannuation scheme sponsors and trustees. He has also worked as a project manager in both the UK and China.

Doug is a keen rugby player, having played for a number of clubs around the globe. He is also an avid snowboarder and surfer. He enjoys travelling to new destinations to follow these passions.

Casey Sugden

Casey Sugden - Regional Development Manager

Casey has worked in the financial services industry for the last 15 years.  He completed his Masters of Business Administration in 2017, and attained his Advanced Diploma of Financial Services in 2004 and his Certified Financial Planner designation in 2008.

Casey worked for many years in the life insurance industry and has been a regular presenter at industry events, before pursuing his passion for SMSF retirement strategies and joining Accurium in September 2015.

Casey lives in Melbourne, having moved from North Queensland in 2001. He is an avid follower of all things technology and enjoys time in the snow each year with his two young children and his wife Carolina.

Melanie Dunn

Melanie Dunn - SMSF Technical Services Manager

Melanie is an associate actuary with over ten years’ experience at Accurium in our superannuation team. She is currently progressing through the Actuaries Institute exams to qualify as an Actuary specialising in Global Retirement Income Systems. Melanie has extensive knowledge in superannuation and SMSFs, and is a regular presenter at a number of industry leading SMSF conferences. She also provides training for Accurium clients and staff. Melanie specialises in complex issues such as retirement modelling, pensions and segregation strategies.

Melanie is a keen squash player and also a qualified squash coach. She enjoys watching cricket and AFL.

Megan Kaponas

Megan Kaponas - Marketing and Communications Manager

Megan has been working at Accurium for over 13 years and manages marketing campaigns, partner relationships, client communications, advertising and promotional activities to practitioners operating in the SMSF retirement market. She is currently completing her Master of Marketing through Charles Sturt University.

In her spare time Megan enjoys spending time with her family and friends, playing hockey and believes that life’s too short to drink bad wine.

Ruvi Nanayakkara

Ruvinda Nanayakkara - Consulting Actuary

Ruvinda is in charge of preparing actuarial certificates for DB funds and actuarial consulting work at Accurium. His extensive knowledge on Defined Benefit (DB) funds makes him your go-to person if you have any DB related queries. He is an associate actuary currently progressing through the Actuaries Institute exams to quality as a fellow actuary.

Ruvinda is an enthusiastic traveller always interested in exploring new territories. He is an advanced open water diver who strongly believes sharks are hugely misunderstood creatures and look forward to an encounter with a great white shark on one of his dives. Being Sri Lankan from origin, he is a very passionate cricket supporter and also enjoys watching rugby, two sports he used to play during his college years.

Ruvinda’s passion for helping people understand and plan for risks that they face in retirement exceeds his passion for cricket.  He hopes that he can use his skills to make a significant contribution to society.

James Jackson

James Jackson - Actuarial Analyst and SMSF Senior Manager

James is an Actuarial Analyst with over four years’ experience at Accurium in our actuarial consulting team. He is currently progressing through the Actuaries Institute exams to qualify as an Actuary.

James has a broad knowledge in SMSFs and he also provides training and guidance for Accurium staff. James spends most of his time kayaking, running and is also a qualified white-water kayaking instructor. With the remainder of his time he likes relaxing at home with friends, family and his three cats.

Josh Dykes

Josh Dykes - Finance Manager

Josh is Accurium’s finance manager having over 15 years’ experience as a financial accountant in both domestic and international markets. Having previously worked overseas for multinationals such as JP Morgan, ING and Disney, he has a returned home to work for Accurium since 2012.  Josh is a CPA Australia member with extensive financial accounting experience both locally and abroad in a wide gamut of financial disciplines.  

Josh is a keen sportsman, playing Australian Rules football in the winter and cricket during the summer months.  He is also a motoring enthusiast, spending every spare moment working on his prized possessions.

Jacco Vonk

Jacco Vonk - Development Manager

Jacco is an IT professional with over 20 years of software development experience. Jacco specialises in web development using Microsoft’s .NET framework and tools. Jacco has worked in a variety of industries such as Energy, Government, Education and Financial Services. In each role Jacco has used his strong technical and problem solving skills to deliver real business value through well designed and functioning software systems.

Jacco enjoys swimming, playing guitar and spending time with his family.
