Building on the success of Accurium’s growth in education and training offering for SMSF practitioners, this year we are pleased to be partnering with selfmanagedsuper to deliver a full day event providing attendees with up to 11 hours of CPD!

I sat down with our Head of Education Mark Ellem to discuss why he’s excited about the upcoming SMSF Professionals Days in May and June.

The theme for the SMSF Professionals Day is ‘strategies for success in 2023’. Mark identified “a key focus in setting this theme and curating the agenda was recognising that ‘strategy’ is a critical element of any SMSF and so we wanted to create an event which would provide accountants and financial advisers with the skills and knowledge they need to stay ahead and incorporate meaningful changes to a client’s strategy in light of legislative and regulatory changes”.

“Our goal was to create a day which not only ticks the box on CPD, but delivers real and practical value to attendees who I hope will leave feeling empowered to offer their clients the best advice and solutions to achieve their financial goals.”

Having been an accountant, auditor, and administrator himself over 30 years working with SMSFs prior to transitioning into technical roles I appreciate the practical focus Mark can bring to our education and training at Accurium. “I know practitioners are time poor, so at the current early bird special rate of $365 attendees can attain up to 11 hours of CPD in a one-day practical and informative event with an exceptional line up of speakers… that’s only $33 per CPD hour, you can’t get much better value than that!”

The SMSF Professionals Day is visiting Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane ‘in-person’ however we are also running the event online to allow those who live outside these regions to attend virtually. Online attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions of our presenters during specially scheduled Q&A sessions during the virtual event.

The agenda for the day covers a range of topics with each session providing a different proposition for attendees to ponder when it comes to thinking about their client’s SMSF strategies. Mark highlighted that “each presenter has been asked to incorporate the ‘strategy’ theme into their session and to provide key practical takeaways for attendees, you may also have seen on LinkedIn or Twitter that some of our presenters have provided a teaser to their session in a video with selfmanagedsuper”.

When asked what session he’s most looking forward to Mark said “How can I pick a favourite! We’ve got sessions covering contribution strategies, retirement strategies, strategy considerations for accessing super (that’s my session), estate planning strategies, strategies for managing compliance and risk in how you give advice, including ethical considerations when providing advice, and strategies for small business CGT concessions… and we also have three bonus sessions for all attendees to watch online covering Age Pension strategies, strategy considerations for female SMSF members, and a session from the ATO examining their approach to SMSF strategies. What a bumper line up of sessions!”

When asked to sum up why someone should attend the SMSF Professionals Day 2023 Mark put it succinctly, “Attend because you want to be at the forefront of SMSF strategy advice, and for under $40 an hour you get access to some of the best educators in the SMSF industry who will share valuable information you can use for your clients and to help grow your SMSF business, as well as protect it. “
